CLIENT NEEDS
- The client was looking to evaluate all existing large scale (grid) energy storage solutions, especially competitive solutions maturing in the short term (6-12months).
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
- The client was looking to evaluate all existing large scale (grid) energy storage solutions, especially competitive solutions maturing in the short term (6-12months).
KEY BUSSINESS OUTCOMES
- The client was delighted to receive a final short list of 8 companies whose energy storage solutions matched their decision matrix.
- Meeting were setup for the client with each of the 8 companies to explore possibilities of funding, co-development or acquisition.
- All of this was achieved within a period of 6 weeks from the date of first interaction.
KEY BUSINESS IMPACT
- This engagement resulted in the client making 2 investments and 1 acquisition.
OUR APPROACH & METHODOLOGY
Expert Project Team Deployment
- For the client’s specific business objective, from its Expert Network, WhatNext selected and deployed a project team of 2 Experts supported by 3 Ph.D. candidates.
Customised Business Objective service through WhatNext Platform
- The project team first identified 130 solutions within a variety of technology areas covering large-scale battery storage, thermal solutions, H2 storage solutions, mechanical, air & gravity-based systems, etc.
- The research outcomes were made accessible to the client through the WhatNext platform.
- The 2 experts conducted an online analyst briefing with the client to appraise them on the key findings and to take them through the solutions identified.
Solution Benchmarking & Shortlisting
- Based on the long list, the expert team then bifurcated the solutions based on their top two primary use cases & applications. Each bucket of solutions was benchmarked based on existing maturity level, estimated LCOE (Levelized cost of energy), energy storage capacity, expected system life, robustness/reliability of the solution & solution sustainability.
Due-Diligence: Primary Interviews with Start-Ups & MSMEs
- 15 companies were selected for in-video interviews to validate claims made, assess actual TRLs, etc. These inputs were used to arrive at a final shortlist.
